I am a Mandarin language teacher and have a very high passion and motivation to open a language centre for Malaysians to speak beyond Malay & English.

This is my market research on what are the top 5 languages searched on Google by Malaysians in 2022. On top of that, I am also considering opening different language centres in different states based on the research.

From Google Trend data analysis, I learned the following:

• The Mandarin language is the most searched language in Malaysia.
• Surprisingly, the Arabic language is not that popular.

Questions

1. Which language should I focus on for my language centre?
2. Based on the research, identify which state has the highest search on the language.

Needed Data

As this project is based on 2022 trends, I will focus solely on the Google Trends data, and I might include data from some other data sources if needed.

• Google Trends Data
  • Get the interest over time data (interest and timeline) on 5 languages in 2022
  • Get the geomap for the interest over time (geomap)

Early Hypothesis

My early hypothesis of the ranking is as below:

1. Mandarin Language
2. Tamil Language
3. Korean Language
4. Japanese Language
5. Arabic Language

Dashboard Planning

Depending on the data needed, I will build a bar chart to compare which language is popular during the year 2022.

I also will include a geomap to filter different language searches in different states. Compared to Google Trends geomap intensity map, my map can be filtered interactively via the Tableau filter.
